Australia International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (AIPRS)


On 31 December 2016, the Australia International Postgraduate Research Scholarship was replaced by the Research Training Program (RTP) beginning from 1 January 2017. It creates the avenue for international students to undertake a postgraduate research qualification in Australia and garner knowledge and experience with leading Australian researchers. The Australia International Postgraduate Scholarships provides block grants, on a yearly basis, to higher education providers to support both domestic and international students undertaking Research Doctorate and Research Masters degrees, known as higher degrees by research (HDRs). Scholarships are made available to foreign students without nationality restrictions (except New Zealand). Scholarships are made available for a period of two years for a research master’s degree or three years for a research doctorate degree.

Eligibility For The Australia International Postgraduate Research Scholarships

Applicants will only be shortlisted and considered for the Australia international Postgraduate research scholarships when the underlisted criteria are met:

1. Meeting the minimum English Language Proficiency requirements for direct entry to the academic programme.
2. All qualifying programs are accomplished and satisfactory evidence of completion can be provided.
3. When an applicant bags a First Class Honours [equivalence] is attained.
4. Where autonomous sanctions apply the University must gain approval from the relevant authorities to offer admission before shortlisting for scholarships.


Candidate Selection Format For The Australia International  Postgraduate Research Scholarships

Applicants for the Australia IPRS Scholarships will be selected in order of merit based  on the following criteria:

1. Academic qualification
2. Alignment of the intended research.
3. History of research publications or non-traditional research outputs.
4. Professional Research Experience garnered over years.
5. Preference will be given to applicants who have rounded off a Bachelor Honours Degree with minimum Class 1, or who are regarded as owning an identical level of acquirement through past study, relevant work experience, research strength, research publications and other research experience.

How To Increase Your Chances of Getting The Australia International Postgraduate Research Scholarship

1. An applicant should be with an outstanding academic record and very equipped for doctoral study.
2. An applicant’s project should be with the ability to make a recognizable contribution to the field.
3. An applicant should have a suitable and well-developed research design.
4. Develop a well-represented and thorough research proposal.
5. Include your past academic performances in your application essay.
6. Have your application crosschecked by someone familiar with your discipline and someone who is not. Your application should entice both.

Documents Required For The Australia International Postgraduate Research Scholarships

1. The final transcript of all previous exams as well as the final grade (Bachelor’s Degree). Should these documents be unavailable, candidates should submit an updated transcript of the exams
2. Reference Letters written by a Tutor/Professor/Employer. Reference Letters must be addressed to the University. Applicants must also provide full contacts of the Tutor/Professor/Employer.
3. CV (curriculum vitae)/ Resume
4. English language certificate (IELTS or TOEFL)
5. A valid Passport or Identity Document.
6. A non-refundable application fee.
7. Certified proof of your level of English language proficiency.
