The Japan Foundation for UNU (JFUNU) allows academically exceptional students from developing countries who are in need of financial assistance and have been admitted to the Master of Science in Sustainability Programme at United Nations University apply for a scholarship. This masters scholarship for sustainable development programme is geared at providing students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to contribute to solving challenges of sustainability. The host institution for the JFUNU scholarship is the United Nations University – Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS).

Eligibility Criteria For The JFUNU Scholarships For MSc In Sustainability Programme

 

To be considered worthy of being awarded the UNU-IAS Scholarship, an applicant must fulfil the following criteria:

1. Have an unyielding interest in sustainability studies.
2. Must be from a developing country and in need of financial assistance.
3. Must demonstrate the dedication to learn and understand global issues.
4. Must have rounded off his/her Master’s degree in disciplines related to sustainability studies and a minimum of 2 years of practical field experience related to UNU-IAS research themes which were gotten after bagging a university degree.
5. Must have a GPA of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale for at least one of the Master’s degrees bagged.

 

English Language Requirements For The JFUNU Scholarships

The UNU-IAS has its English language minimum score requirements as:

600 on TOEFL – Paper-Based Testing (PBT) OR
100 on TOEFL – Internet-Based Testing (IBT) OR
7.0 on IELTS – Academic format

Applicants, excluding the cases underlisted, are required to submit the original TOEFL or IELTS score reports (from a test taken within the last two years) to the Admissions Office at the time of scholarship application:

1. Applicants whose native language is English.

2. Applicants who graduated from a university or a postgraduate school located in an English speaking country.

3. Applicants who completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme where the language of instruction and examination was English.

How Candidates Are Selected For The JFUNU Scholarships.

UNU-IAS requires applicants to provide verification of the information and documents submitted as part of their application and/or additional information. Candidates are therefore awarded the JFUNU scholarship on the basis of the information gotten.

After reviewing all necessary documents and application, successful candidates are notified by email to the address provided on Application Form.

Only successful applicants who submit the necessary documents for the entrance procedure and pay 50% of the tuition fees for the first academic year (5,000 USD) within 10 UNU working days after results have been announced will be admitted to the programme.

Only applicants that are accepted for enrolment in the UNU-IAS Master of Science in Sustainability programme are to apply online.

There is no separate application form for the scholarships as it is a part of the online application for admission.
