This University of Canterbury (UC) is out to identify and support academically exceptional international students starting an undergraduate degree programme at the University. The scholarship, which is of a period of a year, accepts applications from international students from secondary schools, pre-university institutions, universities or other tertiary institutions outside New Zealand. Applications are made available to qualified international students around the world in June every year.

Eligibility Criteria For The University of Canterbury (UC) International First Year Undergraduates Scholarships

Candidates can apply for the University Of Canterbury Scholarships if the following criteria are fulfilled:

1.  Must not be a citizen of New Zealand or Australia, or holders of New Zealand residence class visas.
2. They must be completing, or have completed on or after 1 January of the year before the year of application, a University Entrance-level qualification that permits entry into a University of Canterbury undergraduate degree programme.
3. Candidates must have applied for admission to the University by 15 August in the year prior to their intended first year of enrollment at the University.
4. Students who are undertaking, or have completed a Foundation Studies programme at the UC International College.

 

 

Selection Process For The University Of Canterbury International First Year Scholarships

All applicants to the University Of Canterbury International First Year Scholarships, go through the rigorous selection process where a set of entry criteria that require high efficiency and competence are applied in order to shortlist the best of candidates. The scholarship will be given by the University of Canterbury Council based on the recommendation of the university’s Selection Committee. These recommendations will be based on the following criteria:

a. Applicant’s level of achievement in a programme of study
b. Applicant’s demonstration of leadership potential.
c. Applicant’s participation in cultural, sport and activities in the community.
d. Evidence of international experience, which may include travel, attendance at seminars, and other activities outside the applicant’s home country.

1. Getting involved with your community: Students who volunteer enjoy a huge advantage with scholarship sponsors, scholarship sponsors are looking for a long-time commitment to volunteering. 2. Being passionate:
When you’re writing a scholarship essay let your personal voice come through. Include lots of details in your essay that helps reveal who you are. It’s usually a good idea to focus on a problem and how you solved it or overcame adversity.
3. Fine-tuning Your Curriculum Vitae (CV):  Once you’ve applied for the Canterbury International scholarship, you now have to work on actually being awarded the scholarship.
