The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is an organization that is financed by the Federal Government purposely for developing human capacity and promoting petroleum technology to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry. The Fund hereby invites applications from qualified Nigerians to apply for the 2018/19 Undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D. scholarships for students in Nigerian Federal Universities. PTDF is one of the scholarships in Nigeria that will be awarded to candidates for studies in the 2018/2019 academic session in the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, France (through Campus France), Top Institutions in the United States of America as well as Federal Universities and Centres of Excellence in Nigeria. 

 

Eligibility Criteria For The PTDF Scholarship 2019

To be eligible to apply for the PTDF Nigerian Undergraduate Scholarship, the criteria listed below must be met for  Undergraduates, Master’s students and Ph.D. applicants:

Undergraduates:

Applicants must be full-time students in any of the Federal Universities.
Applicants must be in their second year at a federal university.
● The applicant’s course of study should be connected to the oil and gas industry.
Applicants should have a minimum of 5 credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO including English Language and Mathematics.
Must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 on a scale of 5 or 3.0 on a scale of 4 which is equivalent to 2.1

 

PhD

Must have rounded off the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
Must be an expert at operating the computer.
Must have bagged a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree and a good second-degree certificate.
Must submit a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than 5 pages) to include: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology, and mode of data collection.
All lecturers must produce a letter from their Vice Chancellor confirming that they are not in receipt of any other scholarships

 

Selection Test Format of PTDF Scholarships

Having done a review of documents submitted by applicants, the selection committee conducts a Computer-Based Aptitude Test for MSc applicants.

For Ph.D. applicants, an oral interview is conducted.

 

PTDF Scholarship Computer Based Aptitude Test Format For MSc Applicants

This Computer Based test comprises two parts, Parts I & II.


Part I: General Paper For the questions and you are provided with five (5) multiple choice answers for each one. Select what you consider to be the appropriate answer to each question.
You are required to answer all the questions. Note that it uses the negative marking scheme and you are advised not to select at random answers to the questions because you will lose as many marks for an incorrect answer as you will score for a correct answer.


PART II: Technical Competence
This part is used to test your technical know-how. It is used in combination with your general capabilities which were tested in General Paper (Part I) to see how proficient you are in your career of interest.

How Candidates Are Selected For The PTDF 2018/ 2019 Scholarships Programme

A selection committee will be set up to review applications using the following criteria as a yardstick upon which scholarships will be judged. I have previously written about PTDF Scholarship interview. Do well to check it out!.

1. Academic merit as evidenced by the quality of degrees, full academic transcripts and other professional qualifications gotten.
2. Relevant publications to be referenced by the applicant (Ph.D. applicants only)
Membership of professional bodies.
3. The feasibility of the study/research plan.
4. Applicants are required to make a case for their scholarship by submitting a statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) stating the reason(s) they want to undertake the study, the relevance of the proposed study to the industry and its expected impact on national development.
